Rising Against The Wind !

Even though I am almost dead on my feet, I still feel a tinge of my part to share this around.

Its yet again that phase of a very recent graduate’s life that is full only with confusions galore. With so much ecstasy of getting a degree after 3-4-6 years of turmoil, there remains a panic/anxiety/nervousness towards one’s very first job. You might be a lucky bird to have grabbed a deal well in advance even before passing out, however, its not a piece of cake for everyone else out there.

With so much turmoils, one might end up with a well paid job in hand. What is ensuing is the responsibilities that come up when one joins the corporate. Fresh graduates are like unformed moulds who can be configured the way corporate wants. All that is left with a directionless graduate is following the crowd and following what comes up. It is at this stage that is very crucial to decide what are we going to pursue, what are our expectations, what are our future plans and how are we going to grow. These aspects might seem very petty when you are actually in a student mode and not yet tasted the corporate but you come to realise the same when you are pretty 2 years old in the corporate.

While many are lucky/unlucky to get their joining right after their college, some are kept waiting even until years. Yes, it’s the service based companies in our country who do so according their pre set rules/regulations. It is this time that one can take the most advantage of. I would like to stress heavily on the fact that this is the best time in any one’s life to make the most. You have ample time to spend it the way you want – just accept the fact that this time won’t return in your life. You must do all crazy things you have thought of. Spend with your parents, friends and relatives. Create memories. Pursue your long lost dreams. You have a cherry upon the cake if you are an aspirant of higher studies. This is the best best time to devote yourself and prepare hard. Even if you are not, you may start looking around for better opportunities in the market while studying closely as well. You may try at your hand at exams like the E Litmus – a good score in which might land you up in a well paying job!

Start exploring around. You’ve got immense things to do/pursue. Introspect yourself. Think through the ways you think will help you climb the success ladder.

Somewhere amidst all these, you might end up with your joining letter in hand. Congratulations !

When you get busy with all the joining formalities, just be prepared of what the ground reality of the corporate is. Besides the salary thing, there are several other aspects that need consideration.

But yes, nothing at the expense of the joys of learning, sharing and caring at the workplace. Corporate is not like your student life. You are grown up now. You are expected to grasp everything easily and mould yourself up into the professional attire. Leave the student life behind. You would have responsibilities with you once you start working on a real project. You would be answerable to your immediate lead, manager, delivery manager and most importantly, your client. Be ready to face the harsh reality of a fresher. A fresher would be used the way your higher management wants to only to fulfill their needs. You would be in competition with seniors alike. You have to stand out against all by keeping yourself abreast, pro active and being the best. Never leave a chance to your management to pinpoint defects in you. Well, having said this, the grim reality is you would be targeted even if you are good enough. The thing is everything depends on the circumstances. But not everyone is so lucky. Politics is a dark/bitter veracity, especially of the IT sector ! Be ready to face and tackle this.

Remember, you must be fighting with everyone else around, but emerge a person who’s better than you were. Let your actions speak for you. People will try to suppress you. But, don’t lose heart. Everything has a way out. This is the battle you have to fight and emerge victorious.

All the best !
