This is one of the highly rated Korean Dramas that talks about the intricacies of high school students who belong to the elite group. This is unarguably one of the best dramas of Lee Min Ho and Park Shin Hye and was a wonder.
Outline
Kim Tan aka Lee Min Ho is the illegitimate son of the Jeguk Group who was born out of the wedlock to a mistress. In order that he be the legal and rightful heir, this bitter truth is hidden from the world. He finds himself hated by his half-brother who grows up to take over as the next Chairperson after his ailing father.
Storyline Synopsis
The story begins in California where Kim Tan gets to meet the poor and destitute girl, Cha Eun Sang [Park Shin Hye] who finds herself cheated by her sister for money. He helps her when she is all alone and starts falling for her. Eun Sang leads a life full of struggles, especially after her sister ditches them whose mother is differently abled [can’t speak]. Meanwhile, they are forced to stay in Kim Tan’s house due to some unavoidable circumstances. Kim Tan misses Eun Sang when she decides to return from America and is surprised to find Eun Sang in their house.
Kim Tan never leaves an opportunity to prove his love for Eun Sang, who tries to stay away from Kim Tan given their status differences and that Kim Tan’s already engaged to a girl he never liked. And then there is this guy who’s supposed to become Kim Tan’s fiancée’s half-brother, falling for Eun Sang.
Eun Sang is a strong girl who knows her boundaries well and luckily has a close friend who is in a relationship with a sweet girl in his school. She is one who rarely thinks about her and always tries to help her mother out to overcome their day to day difficulties.
And the story depicts how all their lives get entwined because of the love triangle and other personal issues. Kim Tan and Eun Sang have to bear a lot of tough times of separation, but they ultimately sail through. All’s well that ends well. She and Kim Tan stand by each other through all their trying times and end up together.
Viewpoints
A well portrayed drama with awesome music score and a gripping plot. Min Ho sports a complete different and interesting look from all his previous dramas – Boys Over Flowers and Personal Taste. Park Shin Hye complemented him so perfectly throughout the drama such that their chemistry never fails to leave a charm.
Each and every cast of this drama has been exceptional. I was amused to find myself hooked to it when I watched the second time. I was awestruck. This time, I felt the true love of Kim Tan and Eun Sang. How they understood each other effortlessly! Kim Tan is mature, yet has an innocent side to him, which makes him so lovable. He protects the ones he loves, with all his might. Just imagine how the lives of a high-schooler gets entwined in this cobweb of life.
Original Sound Track
It’s simply outstanding. I just cannot cherry pick one. I was surprised to know the song, ‘Painful Love’ was sung by our Min Ho. What a touching song it is! I also have a particular liking towards ‘Story’, sung by our lovely lady, Shin Hye. Each and every track is amazing!
Just cannot pick one! ❤
Do listen, even the instrumental ones.
Ending Note
A definite watch. In fact, I re-watched already. This drama tells you how much the lives of the rich kids are messed up and how they crave for a simpler life, where they can breath and be peaceful. The love story of Kim Tan and Eun Sang is very heart-warming and we end up only falling for them. Their love is unbiased and undeterred by the circumstances they face. I related more when I watched it again.
As always, Min Ho is wonderful to watch. Not to forget, each character is crucial and portrayed very well. Kim Woo Bin, Krystal, Kang Ha Neul, Kang Min Hyuk, Kim Ji Won, Choi Jin Hyuk and few others whom I haven’t mentioned were exceptional.
Happy Watching! ❤
