It’s the onset of Spring and the most awaited period of the year. Yes, NaPoWriMo 2021 is finally here with yet another exciting month to explore our pursuits in the realms of poetry. And, what better way could we ask for while stepping into the beginnings of happiness and joy around than spreading it via the NaPoWriMo!
NaPoWriMo [National Poetry Writing Month] is celebrated during the month of April every year. I personally stumbled upon this concept last year in April by when more than half of the month had already crossed over. As I reflect upon it, I believe this is such an excellent opportunity to explore our hidden areas and overcome our comfort zones only to delve into this ocean of poetry. Is there a medium more liberating, beautiful and leaving with a feeling of satisfaction than expressing it in poetic forms ?!
This is an excellent chance again to learn deep into what kinds of poetry forms exist and hence, we could get better insights into exploring such stuff. I landed upon The Teachers & Writers Handbook of Poetic Forms by Ron Padgett, that talks quite in detail about different poetry forms, along with illustrations. I personally found it really useful.
Getting Started
Take a look at NaPoWriMo where in you could as well register your site under the ‘Submit Your Site’ section, post which your site would start getting listed under ‘Participants’ Sites’. The Team is not expecting us to post links to each individual pieces of work. However, we could post them out on the individual posts mentioning the daily prompts. I think this is a great place to keep ourselves focussed while also getting to read the pieces exclusively hand-picked by the team.
Another interesting choice of mine is NaPoWriMo by Silver Leaf Poetry. Their prompts are really interesting and fun to do with!
So, get your instruments ready and sail through!
No better excuse to start working on your skills only to witness where you would go!
Happy Writing! ❤
